Immobilisation, explained.
What does an immobiliser do?
It adds an authorisation step before a vehicle can be started or driven, depending on the system and vehicle. It complements locks, alarms and tracking; no single product prevents every theft.
Is an immobiliser the same as a tracker?
No. Immobilisation adds a barrier to unauthorised use. Tracking helps locate a vehicle and, with a monitored service, supports recovery. The MetaTrak Deadlock systems shown here combine both functions.
PIN, card or tag?
Different systems use different methods. We will help you choose a routine that suits you and demonstrate operation, service mode and the appropriate backup procedure at handover.
Will it work on my vehicle?
Compatibility varies by make, model, year and powertrain. We check this before installation, including for vans, cars, campers and suitable machinery. Do not assume every option suits every vehicle.
Accreditation and insurance — important details
Deadlock and Pro are manufacturer-listed as S5 tracking: separate Category 2 or OBD certification has not been verified. For eTEC, the retailer lists S5 but the exact certificate and Category 2E claim remain unverified. Autoblock, standalone Scorpion X and Shadow product approvals remain unverified. An optional certified tracker does not certify a standalone immobiliser.
Green ticks identify manufacturer-listed Thatcham categories. S5 covers tracking; Category 2 covers immobilisation. They are not interchangeable. Information labels mean product certification is not yet verified, not that a product has failed testing. TASSA is a separate scheme; supplier ISO or monitoring-centre standards do not certify an individual immobiliser. Checks dated 10 September 2026.

What about insurance and subscriptions?
Ask your insurer to confirm acceptance of the proposed system and installation. Monitored tracking requires the appropriate subscription. Your quote will set out hardware, fitting and any ongoing costs before you commit.
